LA Regional CPS-3 Award

Congratulations to Donna Ashmore for receiving an award from the ACS LA Region for her astounding efforts for CPS-3 recruitment.

The Department of Epidemiology & Surveillance Research of the American Cancer Society is in the process of recruiting a diverse group of approximately 500,000 adults for a new research study, the Cancer Prevention Study (CPS)-3.  This new CPS-3 study will further advance our understanding of the factors that cause or prevent cancer.  CPS-3 is a grassroots effort where local communities across the country can support cancer research not just through fundraising efforts, but also by participating actively in historic research.

The Santa Clarita Valley's Relay For Life was one of the selected enrollment sites in the LA Region.  Led by long-time ACS volunteer and CPS-3 chair, Donna Ashmore, coordination of CPS-3 at the Santa Clarita Valley Relay For Life began nine months prior to the event.  Through her strong leadership Donna Ashmore led the Santa Clarita's CPS-3 Study to a huge success.  As a result of this leadership, the number of enrolled participants far surpassed all expectations.  The Santa Clarita Valley CPS-3 site team had initially projected enrollment of 250 individuals.  Through the great efforts of Donna Ashmore and the enrollment site team, they recruited 401 individuals toward our nationwide goal.

Note:  We have been informed that our enrollment is #2 in the nation!  Congratulations to Donna and a big "thank you" to everyone who supported her efforts.
