Bob Spelleri, 2007 Opening Ceremony Speaker

My name is Bob Spelleri.

I have pancreatic cancer, stage 4, which reared its ugly head almost three years ago. That makes me something of an anomaly, since the survival rate for my sort of cancer at two years after its "debut" is 2%.

But I still wake up every morning (if I should fail to do this sometime, do bring it to my attention) and thank the Lord for another day. Another day which I intend to repeat again and again.

I have grandchildren under the age of ten. I intend to see them graduate and start their own families. I intend to celebrate my fiftieth wedding anniversary with my lovely wife (and that won't be for another 13 years). And I intend to wail like a victorious banshee when my cancer dies with my hands around its throat instead of the other way around. That's because I'm a 60%'er. And you... whether you have cancer or not... need to be one too. We breathe the same air on this planet, so we truly share the same breath.

Most of us want the same good, so we truly share the same dreams.

So let me share my 60% factor with you, because when you add it to what you already have, it totals more than 100%. And that's what I want for you, and what we truly want for each other. A conquest of life in the very best way possible.

See you at the Relay For Life.

To start the day off right, let's each awaken that morning and give thanks for yet another glorious day to have the chance to embrace one another.

Victory and joy to each and every one of you.

Bob Spelleri
