Relay Team Information
MISSION DELIVERY ACTIVITIES AT RELAY
Teams have a chance to promote healthy
lifestyles and good every day choices by taking on a Mission Delivery activity
at Relay. We encourage all teams to choose an activity below. One activity
from each of the eight mission topics below is mandatory for every Relay, which
includes the two priority mission delivery activities listed below (**).

Choose a topic below and an
activity under that topic.

If you want to create an activity
for a specific topic that is not located below, meet with the Mission Delivery
Chair and or Mission Delivery Staff partner to get approval of your activity.

Sign-up for your activity with the
Mission Delivery Chair and/or
Mission Delivery Staff Partner.

Get together with your team to go
over details for your chosen activity. Plan supplies that are needed, plan
time activity will occur at the event, list needs like stage time, field
space, etc…

Advocacy
Breast Cancer Awareness
Colon Cancer Screening Awareness

Captain
Anti-Oxidant Skit – Promote Colon Cancer awareness through a skit at Relay.

Don’t be a Chicken, Get Screened for Colon Cancer – Promote
Colon Cancer screening using props like rubber chickens, eggs, and more.

Hunt the Polyp –
Convey colon awareness by hunting the polyp and reading awareness messages.
Information Services
- Cell Phone Ring Contest – Promote ACS 800-ACS-2345
number by having everyone save the number in their phone; have a contest for
the best ring tone.
- Information Prize Wheel – (limited wheels available)
Table top wheel with ACS programs and services with accompanying questions.
Nutrition
- Nutrition Quiz – Quiz Relay participants about the
importance of good nutrition and physical activity.
- Fun, Food, and Fitness Challenge – Food and Fitness
game to be played with teams of people.
- The Prize is Life – A take-off on “Price is Right”, but
it has nutrition questions.
- Trail reMix with DJ Cal Carrot – Use Cal Carrot costume
as the DJ and promote a trail mix station for a good example of a healthy
snack.
Patient
Services
- ** Be a Cancer Resource in Your
Community/Power of Volunteering – Promote Call by handing out flyers to
participants at Relay.
- Sue’s Story – Promote ACS programs and services by
acting out Sue’s story on stage at Relay.
- Stephanie H. Lane Cancer Resource Network Messages –
Have volunteers stand on stage to read a message and promote the importance of
the Network.
- Look Good…Feel Better – Promote turban making with old
Relay shirts and use local volunteers to show participants about the Look
Good…Feel Better program.
- Road to Recovery License Plate Challenge – Have a
competition between the teams to make the best license plate that reflects the
importance of the Road to Recovery program.
- Road to Recovery Car Show and Race – Promote Road to
Recovery program and recruit new volunteer drivers through a box car race and
show.
- Show a Car, Road to Recovery – Promote Road to Recovery
program by having a special car show at the Relay.
Physical
Activity
- Wellness BINGO – Promote physical activity through
hosting a Wellness bingo game.
- Might as well Jump! Jump! Go ahead annnd Jump! –
Promote physical activity through a jump rope challenge.
- Obstacle Course – Promote physical activity by
coordinating an obstacle course challenge.
Research
- ** Research Sandwich Board – Promote
ACS’s Research accomplishments by asking participants research related
questions while wearing a sandwich board sign.
- Relaying the Research - Promote important
research breakthroughs and accomplishments of ACS by having a Research Relay
lap.
** These are the two required MD
Activities to occur at all Relay events.
Additional Mission Delivery Topics
for Activities Include:

Skin Cancer
- Slip! Slop! Slap! Wrap! Citation – Promote good skin
care by slipping on a shirt, slopping on sunscreen, slapping on a hat, and
wrapping on sunglasses. Give out citations to those who do not do this at the
Relay.
Tobacco
- Tobacco Cessation Quiz – Quiz Relay participants with
Tobacco related questions.
- Butts are Gross – Promote tobacco awareness through a
jar of cigarette butts. Have participants guess number of butts in the jar to
win a small prize.
- Tobacco Tombs – Exemplify various consequences of
tobacco smoking addiction by having pictures of famous people who have died
from tobacco related diseases on cardboard tombs placed around the track.
