What SCV Relay for Life Means to Me

When I first heard about the SCV Relay for Life I immediately decided I wanted to participate. There are lots of different reasons why lots of different people go, but mine are special.

One of the reasons why I am participating is because I heard it’s a lot of fun! There are lots of things a kid can do there. For example, there’s carnival games, live music, appetizing food, cool booths to check out, and you get to camp. The best part is that all the money raised is donated to the American Cancer Society to help cancer patients.

Helping people with cancer is important to me because my Aunt has cancer. Two and a half years ago she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She went to chemo and lost all her hair. It grew back beautifully. The next two years, she had many check-ups with terrific results. In March 2009, they found ten brain tumors and cancer in her lungs. The cancer had been hiding just waiting to come back. She went to radiation lost her hair once more and came back with a burned scalp. After all that, she now has to go to chemo. With the chemo weakening her immune system we are no longer allowed to see her as much as we used to, incase we are carrying a virus. So finding a cure means my Aunt will get to live cancer free once again, and avoid those awful treatments.

I learned that one in every eight women get breast cancer. That seems scary to me. This means that one in eight of my friends will be diagnosed with it. It also means that I could be another cancer patient. I don’t want any other person I love to have to go through what my Aunt has to go through.

I hope that all patients will eventually get to live free from cancer, those head burning machines, and those evil chemical injections. I also hope that one day cancer won’t even exist here, on Earth.

CANCER SUCKS!!!!!!!
